Abu Dhabi Oil Sheikh Writes His Name In The Sand Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT Abu Dhabi Oil Sheikh Writes His Name In The Sand: "Let's see Donald Trump top this. On a sandy island in Abu Dhabi Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan has inscribed what is in effect the biggest graffiti tag the world has ever seen. Hamad, 63, a scion of the billionaire Abu Dhabi royal family, has gouged his name in capital letters two miles across and half a mile wide. His moniker is so big it can be seen from space (as this Google Earth pic demonstrates). The tip of the "H" reaches into the strait that leads to the Arabian Gulf, allowing Hamad to fill the first two letters of his name with water. The "M" looks partially filled as well. China Opens World's Longest Sea Bridge Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT China Opens World's Longest Sea Bridge: "China has unveiled the world's longest sea bridge, which stretches a massive 26.4 miles – five miles further than the distance between Dover and Calais and longer than a marathon. The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, completed earlier this week, links the main urban area of Qingdao city, East China's Shandong province, with Huangdao district, straddling the Jiaozhou Bay sea areas. The road bridge, which took four years and cost a cool £5.5billion to build, will be open for use in the New Year and is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana. It is made of stainless steel and aluminum, and weighs 15.5 tons. Sculptor in charge is Seward Johnson. Passers-by wasted little time positioning themselves under her billowing skirt to get a subway-grate view of Monroe in the same stance as she appeared in the 1955 film 'The Seven Year Itch.' " |

Incredible Camouflage Art by Liu Bolin Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT Incredible Camouflage Art by Liu Bolin: "35-year-old Liu Bolin, from Shandong, China, manages to camouflage himself in any surroundings, no matter how difficult they might be. One single photo takes up to 10 hours to prepare – Liu uses himself as a blank canvas, and with a little help from an assistant, he paints his body to merge as seamlessly as possible with what is behind him. The results are incredible – sometimes passers-by don't even realize he is around until he moves. The talented Liu Bolin says his art is a protest against the actions of the Government, who shut down his art studio in 2005 and persecutes artists. It's about not fitting into modern society. Despite problems with Chinese authorities, Liu's works are appreciated at an international level. " |

Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT Creatively Placed Street Art: "The most creative street art isn't the kind that's randomly spray painted on some freeway wall, but rather, it's the kind that stops you in your tracks and gives you an experience. In this set, I've put together examples of street art that you can tell was thoughtfully placed in a certain environment a side of a large building, on a colored door, next to a window so that the background plays just as an important part of a role as the art itself. Aliens and UFOS in Ancient Art Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT Aliens and UFOS in Ancient Art: "There are plenty of examples of aliens in ancient art that clearly depict the fact that UFOs and extraterrestrial beings were around in those days. ET's and flying saucers appear in cave paintings, tapestries, woodcuts and paintings. This 15th century painting of the Virgin Mary shows a UFO in the background. A man is pointing up at it and his dog is barking at the object. 'The Baptism of Christ' was Painted in 1710 by Flemish artist Aert De Gelder depicts a classic, hovering, silvery, saucer shaped UFO shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus. 17th Century fresco depicting the Crucifixion of Christ, located in the Svetishoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, Georgia. Notice the two saucer shaped objects on either side of Christ complete with stylized flames, blasting off in either direction. 'La Tebaide' ~ Academy of Florence, painted c.1460-1465 by Paolo Uccello The close-up (right) shows a reddish, classic saucer shaped UFO near Jesus. In addition, the tall pine trees in the foreground display the same patterns as seen in the lenticular clouds of other similar religious UFO paintings. UFO Sighting from Westminster, England in 1742 These two tapestries were created in the 15th century. Both are located at the French Basillica Notre-Dame in Beaune, Burgandy. Hat shaped objects can be clearly seen in both tapestries which depict the life of Mary. 'Summer's Triumph' ~ tapestry created in Bruges, in 1538 Bayerisches National Museum. Several disc shaped objects are clearly depicted in the sky, near the top of the tapestry. 'The Miracle of the Snow' by Masolino Da Panicale circa 1400 from Florence, Italy in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, depicting Jesus and Mary on very non vaporous 'lenticular clouds' (flat and circular), or accompanied by an armada of flying saucers stretching beyond the horizon. In this painting on wood drawer from furniture kept at the Earls D'Oltremond, in Belgium, Moses is depicted receiving the tablets of the Ten Commandments, with 'flaming horns.' UFO Coin, 1680 French Medal apparently commemorating a UFO sighting of a wheel like object in Renaissance France. Flying Saucer appears in early fresco painting " |

World's Smallest Space Invaders Arcade Game Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:20 AM PDT World's Smallest Space Invaders Arcade Game: "For those of you who grew up in the 1980s and frequented arcades that had all these large machines, asking you to feed them quarter after quarter while you master the nuances of the game itself, this is one DIY project that quite unlike the electric chair, is able to send chills down your spine. After all, we are talking about what could possibly be the smallest Space Invaders arcade cabinet in the world – and a fully functioning one at that. Measuring a mere 7″ x 3.5″ x 4.5″, this arcade cabinet comes complete with super small buttons and a tiny arcade stick – definitely not something you would want to vent your frustrations on when you lose. At the heart of this cabinet lies parts from a Game Boy Advanced SP, so Space Invaders isn't the only game since it can handle just about any GBA SP cartridge. Check out a video of it in action after the jump. Source: ubergizmo " |
